In the fifties and the sixties I was a teenager. The only place you had was the Town Hall and the pubs. The main place to go for any excitement was Stevenage Town Hall. We used to get local bands down there and what you call now a disco. Wasn’t particularly a brilliant place – a bit rough, sort of fights and this sort of thing. And in 1961/62 time they built the Locarno Ballroom and that was a lot better. They had bar where you could buy drinks, they had local groups, talent groups, they had an evening for disco, disco evenings.
