Interviewer: What were conditions like when you first came to live in Stevenage? I visualise seas of mud

Mr Arnold: Oh dear yes, we moved

Mrs Arnold: It poured with rain

Mr Arnold: We moved down in the November it couldn’t have been a worst time. And the streets wasn’t made up or nothing, we have seen a lot

Mrs Arnold: Ramsdell was the last road to be made finishing that off when we moved in and the other part was all fields you know. No buses was there, we used to have to walk right down the old town to get our shopping.

Mr Arnold: Oh yeah, mm.
