Leonard Vincent about attracting industry to Stevenage

In the very early days of Stevenage it was very difficult to get industry to move in and any industry that indicated it was willing to move was welcomed with open arms and accepted.  Most of the industries that were willing to move are what we called footloose industries that are not like the basic industry, iron foundries being near the coal seams and steel industries and things of this sort, they can be almost anywhere, so they are welcomed in. The trouble with footloose is, of course, they are footloose, they can up sticks and go somewhere else, and I think that as technology has developed over the years they should become more and more so and I don’t think there is anything you can do about it.
