Leonard Vincent about a "side effect" of New Towns: people's mindset about moving changed

"People have moved into the New Towns, have got the idea that moving is no bad thing and have moved on somewhere else"

Stevenage Museum

Transcript:

I think another interesting thing that is not very often taken into account about the new towns is that they have encouraged people to move out and they have done more of moving out people than the actual populations of the towns indicate. In other words people have moved into the new towns, have got the idea that moving is no bad thing and have moved on somewhere else. So the new towns themselves have stimulated some sort of exodus as it were from the derelict parts of the old towns.
