Mr Lenthall discusses the size of neighbourhoods and how this allowed the provision of amenities for these areas

Transcript:

Well, within each neighbourhood there are sub-neighbourhoods. Here, for instance, we’re in the, the Roebuck area which is one of several areas inside Broadwater which is the neighbourhood. I think it was a matter of expediency. With a population of about 10 to 12,000 in a neighbourhood, you can provide that neighbourhood with a number of basic services. You can have several primary schools; you can have a secondary school.  You can have two or three shopping areas; you can have a couple of garages, you can have two or three doctors’ surgeries, you can have a couple of dentists and because of its size, the ability to provide those kind of services gives people in the neighbourhood a great deal of convenience. And you can also provide an adequate park in that sort of size, recreation opportunities.  So I think from that point of view, I would argue that the neighbourhoods are a satisfactory size.
